"As The World Turns"
1994-1997
Mike Kasnoff #1

Shawn Christian

"Mike Kasnoff"

In 1994, Shawn was studying acting at the "Improv Olympic" in Chicago and had  just been accepted into "Second City" when he got the call telling him  he had won the role of  Mike Kasnoff on "As The World Turns". Shawn would leave Chicago and move to New York City to film the CBS daytime drama. The role was that of a auto mechanic/stock car driver, who had dreams of racing his "Ludie Bell" to victory. Along the way he meets two sisters, Rosanna (Yvonne Perry) and Carly Tenney (Maura West). The steamy romances pushed the daytime censor envelope as Mike was torn between the love of  both women.  The pace of  filming "As The World Turns" was overwhelming at first for Shawn.  In 2010, the editors of Soap Digest and Soap Opera Weekly printed a tribute edition to the show.  In it, Shawn remarks on the wisdom that his veteran cast mate Kathleen Widdoes( Emma) shared with him. "You cannot beat yourself up. Don't throw out all your instincts, and try to look like you know what you are doing." Shawn adds his comment "That's the beauty of this soap genre: it goes so fast that you have to work on your instincts and not lose them". So, for me, those were the most transforming memories (on the show). I was like, 'these people are hard core!" (and I learned),'Respect the work and do the work and the rest will follow.' "
