"Summerland" was a wonderfully written and produced TV Series set in the fictitious beach front community of Playa Linda, California. The key characters for this series were Ava Gregory (Lori Loughlin), Johnny Durant (Shawn Christian), Susannah Rexford (Merrin Dungey) and Jay Robertson (Ryan Kwanten). The story unfolds finding the four friends living in the same household by the surf, the sand, the sun, and all by their individual single lifestyles. Their world as they knew it, would soon be drastically changed when Ava becomes the guardian of three children after their parents have been killed in a freak accident in Kansas. All of the housemates step up to the plate to support Ava and agree the kids should come to live with them in Playa Linda. As the group tries to mold into a family unit, mistakes are made along the way, but precious bonds form for each one and their single lifestyle priorities are quickly redefined. "Johnny Durant" plays an integral part in this equation, supporting his longtime companion Ava. They have a romantic history together, but now their relationship is currently deemed as just good friends. However, there are subtle undertones that come to light, indicating they both harbor some unresolved feelings toward each other.
The rest of the cast is comprised of surfing coach Erika (Taylor Cole), nephews Bradin (Jesse McCartney) and Derrick (Nicholas J. Benson), niece Nikki (Kay Panabaker), and the boy next door, Cameron played by Zac Efron (High School Musical).
